Finance Act 1994: A Landmark in Indian Service Tax

The Finance Act, 1994, marks a pivotal moment in the evolution of India’s indirect tax system. It introduced the concept of service tax, a novel levy on the provision of specific services. Prior to this act, the focus of indirect taxation was primarily on goods through excise duties and sales tax.
