Finance Manager Job Description
The Finance Manager is a critical role responsible for overseeing the financial health of an organization. They manage financial planning, reporting, and analysis, ensuring the company’s financial stability and growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A): Develop and manage the annual budget, forecasts, and long-term financial plans. Analyze variances between actual and budgeted performance, providing insights and recommendations for corrective actions. Conduct scenario planning to assess the potential impact of various business decisions.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare accurate and timely financial statements (income statement, balance sheet, cash flow statement) in accordance with accounting principles (GAAP or IFRS). Ensure compliance with regulatory reporting requirements, including taxes and filings.
- Accounting Operations: Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and payroll. Implement and maintain strong internal controls to safeguard company assets and prevent fraud.
- Budget Management: Monitor departmental spending against budget and identify areas for cost savings. Work with department heads to develop and implement cost control measures.
- Cash Flow Management: Monitor and manage cash flow to ensure sufficient liquidity to meet the company’s obligations. Develop strategies to optimize cash flow and minimize working capital requirements.
- Risk Management: Identify and assess financial risks and develop mitigation strategies. Ensure adequate insurance coverage to protect company assets.
- Investment Management: Manage the company’s investment portfolio in accordance with established policies. Evaluate investment opportunities and make recommendations to senior management.
- Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor accounting and finance staff. Provide guidance and training to ensure the team has the skills and knowledge necessary to perform their jobs effectively.
- Liaison: Act as a liaison with external auditors, tax advisors, and other financial institutions. Manage relationships with banks and other lenders.
- Financial Modeling: Create and maintain financial models to support business decisions, such as capital investments, mergers and acquisitions, and pricing strategies.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
- Proven experience in financial management, with a strong understanding of accounting principles and financial analysis.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle) and Microsoft Excel.
- Leadership experience, with the ability to motivate and develop a team.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Knowledge of regulatory reporting requirements.
- Professional certification (e.g., CPA, CMA) is a plus.
